Tips For Keeping Your Windshield Clean & Clear This Winter!

It’s a battle that rages every winter: Icy windshield on the outside and foggy windshield on the inside. The trick to combatting this problem is to balance the cold, dry air on the outside with the warmth and moisture on the inside of your car. If you find yourself being a soldier in this war more often than you would like, follow these tips to keep your windshield clean and clear during these cold months ahead.

  • Keep Your Windshield Clean: Dirty interior windows give moisture more sticking power. Use a good glass cleaner or make your own to remove any dirt on your windshield.
  • Warm up the Engine: Your cars air duct temperature needs to reach around 130 degrees. So, on these cold frosty mornings, crank your car and let it run a few minutes before turning on the defroster.
  • Let in the Air: Don’t re-circulate the interior air. It could be full of moisture (wet coat, gloves, and even your own breath). By keeping the interior air circulating, you are not giving the car a chance to dry out because the moisture never leaves the cabin. Turn off the recirculate button and take in the fresh dry air from outside.

If you get tired of going to battle with your foggy windows every morning consider buying a car with automatic climate control. This type of system will not only maintain a consistent temperature but also monitors and controls moisture levels so that your windows never fog up. You can find this feature on new cars but is not always standard, so ask me to help you find a vehicle for you so you can finally win the war!
